The Role of a Senior Banking Advisor at Northern Trust

At Northern Trust, the Senior Banking Advisor plays a crucial role in developing new client relationships and deepening existing ones. This individual is responsible for managing complex credit and deposit relationships for high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and non-profit organizations. The role emphasizes strategic growth and exceptional client service, coordinating with internal partners across the Bank to deliver a comprehensive suite of financial solutions.

Key Responsibilities of a Senior Banking Advisor

Senior Banking Advisors at Northern Trust have a diverse range of responsibilities. They proactively develop new client relationships and identify prospects, creating tailored marketing strategies for targeted outreach. They manage sophisticated credit, deposit, and treasury management relationships for high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and non-profit organizations.

These professionals also identify and facilitate opportunities across investment, fiduciary, and wealth management solutions beyond banking services. They structure and negotiate complex loan and lease agreements in alignment with bank policies and risk frameworks. Moreover, they analyze and negotiate key loan terms, including pricing conditions, interest rates, and interest rate swaps, ensuring compliance with Credit Policy Committee guidelines.

Furthermore, Senior Banking Advisors oversee the preparation and execution of loan documentation and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financing agreements. They act as trusted advisors to clients on goals-based wealth management strategies and develop and maintain a strong network of Centers of Influence (COIs), leveraging relationships to generate new business opportunities.

Skills & Abilities Required for a Senior Banking Advisor

The position requires an advanced understanding of the banking industry, competitive landscape, and credit/lending practices. Familiarity with investment, trust, and financial planning concepts to support comprehensive client solutions is also necessary. Strong negotiation, leadership, and relationship management skills are crucial, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities.

Experience & Education Requirements

A minimum of 5 years of experience in financial analysis, client servicing, commercial lending, or leasing is required. Experience leading functional teams or managing moderate-risk projects is preferred. A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field is required; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CFP) are preferred.
