The Role of the Director, Technical Program Management – Bank Tech
The Director, Technical Program Management – Bank Tech, is a crucial role at Capital One, requiring strong technical backgrounds, ideally in building highly scalable platforms, products, or services. These individuals are expected to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle, ensuring the smooth operation of the bank’s technological infrastructure.

Qualifications for the Role
At the basic level, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of experience managing technical programs. Preferred qualifications include 7+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing. A minimum of three years of experience in building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services/architecture is preferred, ideally with AWS. They should also have three years of experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms and with Agile delivery.
Experience in delivering large and complex programs is also preferred. This includes owning the business or technical vision, collaborating with large cross-functional teams, securing commitments on deliverables, and unblocking teams to land business impact. Candidates with experience building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment will have an edge. A bachelor’s degree in a related technical field, such as Computer Science or Software Engineering, is desirable, as is an MBA or Master’s Degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience.
Salary and Benefits
The full-time annual salaries for this role vary by location. For instance, in McLean, VA, the salary ranges from $230,400 – $263,000, while in Richmond, VA, it ranges from $209,500 – $239,100. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. The actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
