What Does the Role Entail?
The primary responsibilities of a Senior Software Engineer, Back End (Bank Tech) at Capital One include:
- Collaborating with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions using full-stack development tools and technologies.
- Staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with new technologies, participating in technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community.
- Working with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that empower millions of Americans financially.
- Utilizing various programming languages like Java, Python, SQL, Node, Go, and Scala, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services.
Who Can Apply?
The basic qualifications for the role include:
- A Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply)
The preferred qualifications include:
- 5+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js
- 1+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
- 3+ years of experience in open source frameworks
- 2+ years of experience in Agile practices

Salary Structure and Benefits
The full-time annual salary for this role varies by location. For instance, in McLean, VA, the salary range for a Senior Software Engineer is $161,800 – $184,600.
Candidates hired in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. The actual salary offered will be reflected in the candidate’s offer letter.
Capital One also offers incentives such as performance-based compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives. These incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary, depending on the plan.
