Commercial Banker in Life Sciences: A Brief Overview

As a Commercial Banker in the Life Sciences team, you would be responsible for growing and managing profitable relationships within Commercial and Specialized Industries. Your focus will be on companies within the Life Sciences ecosystem across the intermountain states of CO, AZ, UT, NV, WY, MT and ID. Working in the Life Sciences team, which is part of J.P. Morgan’s Commercial Banking group, you will be the point of contact for new client acquisition and ongoing relationships.

The role of a Commercial Banker in the Life Sciences realm comes with a myriad of responsibilities that contribute to the overall success of the team. Among these responsibilities include:

  • Building a brand within your market that represents Life Sciences as the “Leading Innovation Economy bank serving the best and most diverse clients”.
  • Developing new business in your market through acquiring new relationships, deepening existing relationships and leading internal strategic discussions.
  • Focusing on seeking out the best and diverse founders powering innovation through a referral network built through business activities and relationship development.
  • Championing a culture of innovation and a customer-centric mindset balanced with the ability to manage risk (credit, operational, and reputational) appropriately.
  • Keeping up to date with industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation or strategic partnerships.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

To be successful in this role, certain qualifications, capabilities and skills are required. These include:

  • Having at least 5 years of related experience.
  • Possessing a strong understanding of Commercial Banking products and services.
  • Excellent sales management and business development skills.
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • The ability to work independently and proactively, navigate ambiguity and make sound judgments.
  • FINRA Series 79, 63 and Securities Industry Essentials licenses are required or must be obtained within 180 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

In addition to the required skills, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and formal credit training.
  • Being a strong committed team player, looking to add to a national team of likeminded, passionate Innovation Economy bankers.
