The Role of a Director, Chief of Staff

The Director, Chief of Staff serves as a crucial link across the Bank Tech organization, supporting an individual tower and operating as a strategic partner for the Managing Vice President/ Vice President and the Senior Leadership team. A successful candidate will excel at balancing the big picture and strategic-thinking while also managing the tactical execution and recognizing overlaps in plans, processes, people, and many other aspects of a functioning organization. The role will be responsible for building cohesion and continuity across the organization, towers, and leaders. They must exhibit curiosity and utilize Large Language Model tools to bring efficiency to the role.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

A successful Director, Chief of Staff will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic programs for the organization in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Have a deep understanding of the prioritization and delivery roadmap, helping to identify cross-tower dependencies to proactively manage impediments.
  • Influence matrixed stakeholder teams to move the organization forward in a well-integrated manner.
  • Drive organizational processes that enable success.
  • Partner with communications resources to enhance the organization’s brand, highlighting the impact of strategic initiatives.
  • Work with leadership to determine the feasibility, project, and implementation plan of new projects.
  • Champion unpopular ideas, even with more senior leaders.
  • Quickly get up to speed on key topics and navigate the organization.
  • Drive organizational change and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor with stakeholders and leaders across the enterprise.
  • Regularly use strong business judgment, influencing skills, leadership, and integrity.
  • Inspire an organization of open-exchange and collaboration.
  • Leverage strong facilitation, negotiation, and mediation skills.
  • Employ meticulous organizational skills and follow-through.
  • Work with little direction on complicated, sensitive assignments.

Qualifications for the Role

Basic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 7 years of experience in Project Management, Process Management, or Program Management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in strategy development.
  • 5+ years of experience in budgeting and labor strategy.
  • 6+ years of experience driving organizational change and operational excellence.
  • 3+ years of experience partnering with engineering and product teams.
