The Role of a Senior Manager Project Manager at Capital One

As a Senior Manager Project Manager at Capital One, you will be at the helm of strategy and execution for high-priority company projects. This role provides an opportunity to work with smart, passionate individuals, delivering results that directly impact the company’s bottom line. General Responsibilities

The Senior Manager Project Manager is expected to lead a team of Marketing project managers. Their tasks include designing, developing, and managing campaign project plans & timelines in a dynamic environment, and revising plans to meet changing requirements. They are also tasked with conducting work planning for project managers, which involves estimating the scope and capacity needed from the team.

Furthermore, they are responsible for leading cross-functional routines with leadership, partners & Marketing team members to share project status and escalate risks & dependencies in a timely manner. They make informed recommendations for what the cross-functional Marketing team can take on, recommend trade-offs, and proactively identify future resourcing constraints.

Other responsibilities include overseeing multiple governance processes: monitoring, reporting, and planning process improvement or redesign initiatives; defining, establishing, and managing process controls; identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing them through collaboration with other groups such as the Well-Managed, Compliance, Legal & Risk partners.

The Senior Manager Project Manager is also expected to collect, analyze and measure process data, to initiate sustainable business practices and procedures and for reporting to senior leadership and executives; review data for trends and gaps in the process that may require additional review. They are also tasked with collaborating on project management tools and process enhancements for efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualities and Qualifications

This role requires specific skills and qualifications. The ideal candidate should be able to leverage problem-solving and influencing skills at various levels, including senior leaders, peers, and performers. They should be successful at partnering cross-functionally to provide strategic and tactical thought partnership to effectively drive project delivery. They should also have the ability to work across the full Marketing delivery lifecycle, including partnership with Martech, Strategy, Analyst, Creative & Channel execution teams.

Additionally, the Senior Manager Project Manager should exhibit outstanding influencing skills to effectively drive project/program efforts, demonstrate a proven track record of excellent project management, bring the ability to quickly put structure in place to manage work in a dynamic complex environment, display a passion for coaching and developing a team of associates, and have excellent communication and partnership skills which are essential for interacting and communicating with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to manage, inform, and influence outcomes.

Basic qualifications for this role include a Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience, at least 7 Years of Project Management of Marketing experience, and at least 3 Years of People Management experience. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification, experience with Marketing technology, and experience in Owned and Paid Digital Marketing.

Compensation and Benefits

Capital One offers competitive full-time annual salaries for this role, varying based on location. In addition to a comprehensive, competitive, and inclusive set of health, financial, and other benefits, this role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
